20 Things to do Before you Put Your Resignation

20 Things to Consider Before You Put Your Resignation

Hi Everyone

I would like to share important information with all the members which will help each one of you whenever you plan to resign from the organization. During my journey, I have seen many times, that there is no one to guide or mentor us what all the things we need to know or do before we plan to quit our job.

Follow things, you need to follow or consider before you put in your resignation :

Be Sure

You must be double sure that you want to quit your current job. Once you put in your resignation, you should not withdraw it later. Things will not remain the same way later.

An alternative job

This one is the most important thing to consider before you put in your resignation. Without any job offer in your hand, you should not even think about quitting your current job. How difficult the situation may be, you should always find an alternative job and then quit.

Live Example: Suppose you leave the job today, for the next two-three days you will be feeling good but later on, every day sitting at home and searching for the job will be more painful than when you’re working at your current organization. Trust me that pain will make your life miserable and dependable, your confidence will go down and even the GAP will have a very bad effect on your resume and career.

Financially Stable

In case you do not have a job in hand and you have decided to quit the job, then ensure that you have sufficient money (saving) to take care of your basic needs till you get a job. If you do have much savings and you are the only earning member, then you should not leave the job until you get any new offers. Just imagine how you will manage your basic needs without a salary and who will help you every month.

Compare your current situation with a new offer

Before you accept the offer letter, you need to compare so many things and see whether it is beneficial or not like :

  • Is anything new in the Job Profile
  • Salary in hand
  • Designation
  • Sat & Sun Off
  • Late Sitting
  • Location
  • Consultancy or Corporate
  • Small or big company

Watch my live session video which will give insight into information on Offer Letter Mistakes.

Reason for leaving the organization

Personally, I have also felt that one of the most difficult situations is to think about what reason should I say to convince my boss. You need to think of a proper and valid reason to convince your boss to have a smooth exit. Be prepared for all the questions your boss may ask.

Schedule an appointment

Do not just go to your boss and say that you want to resign. We should inform the boss at the right time. Do not disturb your boss before or after any meeting. Go to your boss and say, Sir, I would like to discuss an important thing with you, so need your convenient time? If he asks you what the purpose is, you can say Sir something very personal for that only I need just your 10 mins.

Last date of your work.

You must be very clear and confident in one thing, that is, your last date of work. Later on, you should not change the last date in any situation. Just a suggestion, always keep a two- to three-day buffer in your hand. In case your boss requests you to work for more than your notice period then you have to cross-check and confirm with your new organization and then only you have to commit to your boss about your last date. Do not just accept anything immediately. Inform your boss that, Sir I need to confirm with my new company and then only I will be able to confirm the extended date.

Be prepared for surprises.

Once you put in your resignation, you never know what will happen: Maybe your resignation will be

  • Kept on hold.
  • Accepted
  • Rejected
  • May be asked to leave the organization immediately (on the same day)

So be prepared for everything.

Inform your Boss first

Do not inform or gossip about your willingness to resign to anyone /everyone. You must first inform your boss and then only you have to disclose among others. If your boss comes to know about your resignation through someone else, then the situation may become totally different.

No Counter Part

Once you have made up your mind then whatever your boss offers, you should not accept it because he has not given it when you deserved it.

Your resignation letter.

Keep your resignation letter ready and also ensure that you send it via email also. Do not write any negative sentences about your boss, colleague, or company, the letter should be very simple and up to a point. Many resignation templates are available on the website. Go through it, prepare, and keep it ready.

Notice Period

It’s very important for everyone to serve the minimum days of notice so that you can hand over your job responsibilities completely to the authorized staff. Leaving the organization without serving the notice period is one of the most hated things by the organization and it’s unethical also on our part.

Mediclaim

One of the biggest employee benefits is the Mediclaim facility. In case you have a mediclaim facility, ensure that if there is any requirement then utilize it because later on you will not be able to claim the same and it will be a big loss.

Reimbursement

If you are eligible for any reimbursement, then keep all your pending bills up to date well in advance.

Investment Documents

Similar to reimbursement, you have to keep all your investment copies ready as you have to submit them to the payroll team.

Log out and discontinue.

Most of the time we log in to our social media or personal email from our official desk and we forget to logout the same. It’s very important nowadays to log out immediately the moment you decide to quit the job. Do it before you put your paper, you never know that once you resign your computer or internet access may be terminated.

Important Contacts

Save all the important contacts with whom you have to coordinate and continue the relationship. Later on, it will be a little difficult to get their direct mobile number or email id.

Unsubscribe

You must immediately unsubscribe from all unwanted podcasts, newsletters, emails, etc. which have no connection to your work.

Open to work

Do not activate Open to Work on any social media like LinkedIn until and unless your resignation has been accepted.

Re-join

You never know, in the future, you may return or rejoin the same organization once again, hence follow all the processes, give a sufficient notice period, hand over all the job responsibilities, and do not gossip about others.

Thank You

Thank you for reading the entire process and hope the above information was very helpful and useful for each one of you. Do consider all the above points before you quit your job.
